Fuuture Stars is an international youth basketball tournament that brings together some of Europe’s most talented young basketball players. Taking placeat Kingston College near London, Future Stars also incorporates a conference for coaches and leaders of sports groups from around the United Kingdom. This makes the perfect platform to promote sports travel to Poland, in particular to Ma³opolska, which is an attractive destination to recreational travellers, including sports teams. There will be a series of presentations which will provide insight into some of the region’s sports’ facilities, opportunities for group travel and also sports injury and rehabilitation facilities. “Ma³opolska offers plenty of great opportunities for recreational tourism, especially for groups of young people who are travelling to Poland to participate in sports tournaments. Ma³opolska offers some excellent sports’ facilities, including well-equipped sports centres and modern swimming pools” explains Miros³aw Bartyzel, a spokesman for the region of Ma³opolska. “There is also an abundance of accommodation that is ideal for sports teams and group travel” he adds. The region is also excellent value for money, which is a definite advantage – especially for groups of young people. There are numerous low-cost airlines that fly into John Paul II International Airport in Balice, near Kraków, and here is no shortage of affordable hotel and hostel accommodation.
Future Stars is masterminded by Jack Majewski, a former Polish international youth coach who is currently Head of Basketball at Richmond upon Thames College. He explains why it makes sense for Ma³opolska to be showcased at the tournament. “The fact that I come from Kraków and spent my youth playing basketball for Wis³a Kraków makes me something of an expert when it comes to sporting facilities in Ma³opolska. I truly believe that this particular region of Poland is blessed with so many opportunities for sport and recreation. Aside from my professional interest in basketball, I love skiing in the region’s ski resorts, going mountain biking in Zakopane, and having a passionate discussion with my father about the Cracovia- Wis³a football derby. I am delighted that Future Stars will be showcasing Ma³opolska as a Mecca for sports groups and visitors who are into active pursuits”
Ewa Binkin, Acting Director of the Polish National Tourist Office in London said, “We are pleased to be able to sponsor an event such as this, which brings together top European talent from the world of youth basketball, in a year in which basketball becomes so important in Poland. It will give us an opportunity to highlight the excellent sporting facilities available in the Ma³opolska Region, and to encourage young sportspeople from the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe to visit Poland in order to take full advantage of the opportunities available to them.” The following representatives of Ma³opolska will be introducing their services to the coaches and leaders of sports groups attending Future Stars:
