Historic Hotels of Poland

There are many historic places to stay in Poland, including majestic palaces and rustic farmhouses. This month, Discover Poland looks at the Frankówka Artistic Farmhouse in Poźrzadło.

The charming, half-timbered pastor’s house from the turn of the 19th century is not only Mr. and Mrs. Ludwikowski’s home with a couple of extra guest rooms, but also a true art gallery. Mr. Ludwikowski is an artist, a conservator of art and an art dealer who has been running an antiques shop in Brussels for several years. He brings beautiful furniture and furnishings from all of Europe, then restores them before putting them up for sale. As befits a conservator, he invests a great deal of his own labor into the rebuilding of the house, as it is not always possible to find craftsmen with the spcialist skills required. And a historical substance often requires dedication to the craft and an eye for detail.

The large guestrooms, the living room with a fireplace, the dining room with a magnificent ceramic tile stove are all filled with outstanding furniture, paintings, sculptures, carpets from the finest manufactures and ornamental bibelots.

The Frankówka Artistic Farmhouse makes an excellent base for exploring Pojezierze Łagowskie a region that is beautiful and rich in lakes and forests, yet still pretty much undiscovered. Surrounding the house is an old orchard with a small pond, with fields and woods beyond. It is just like the setting for a fairytale, and truly unique in the world.

As you enjoy the peace and tranquility, it is almost impossible to imagine that you are so close to the main road between Berlin and Warsaw.

There is a very touching story as to how the Frankowskis came to settle in this small, yet charming village. They owe it to Franek - a black Labrador - Mr. Jerzy Frankowski’s inseparable travel companion. To hear it, you’ll have to check in for a couple of night!
